All year long, we travel to a Lake Michigan beach, or several beaches, most every day. A few days past, it was in the 70s with a water temperature of about 65. While we were sitting, enjoying the peaceful sounds of waves, along came two women to take the last swim of the year. Not a quick “polar plunge”, or donned in wet suits… but an actual swim. Maybe 15 minutes of full on swimming.
“Must be Canadians!” That was what everyone would say when we lived in South Carolina and people would be swimming in 75 degree Atlantic water during October. Here, we are close to Canada. Some Michiganders are just as hardy… or crazy, as Canadians. In younger days I would have been right there with them. Partaking in that last swim of the year.
The next day, the snow fences were up. Today, rain, wind and less gentle waves.
