The terror of flying my drone, especially over water, has vanished. Now it is relaxing. Calming. Peaceful. Today, just after rising above the channel, I experienced a Stairway to Heaven moment. Viewed thru the lower resolution iPhone monitor… the catwalk to the lighthouse, then on to the foghouse seemed to slowly rise into the clouds. Quickly snapping pictures, I hoped the illusion was sustained. As I downloaded today’s photos onto my iPad, I was delighted to see the combination of light, sky, clouds, and fog was true to my vision.
My mind thinks in song lyrics often. If you have followed my blog, you know it well. Stairway to Heaven is one of the most famous of songs in history. For many years it was the most requested and most played song on FM radio.
There’s a lady who’s sure
All that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Oh oh oh oh and she’s buying a stairway to heaven
The song has a straightforward entrance. Go ahead, spend your life accumulating money. All your wealth won’t provide meaning to your life. You can’t buy your way to heaven. This has been a central message of my two plus year blog. I quit my job. We sold our house. Stopped chasing money. Moved to Grand Haven and live in a little two bedroom near the beach.
I learned before it was too late, that “He who dies with the most toys does not win.”
I came to a point where I could quit a career I had come to hate. I could walk away from chasing money. Simplify. Declutter our lives. Go to the beach. Travel our adopted Michigan. Enjoy being with my wife. Write my book instead of sweating numbers.
Finding our Stairway to Heaven.
Fabulous drone work today! I agree you caught the stairway to heaven really well. I also love the fact that you were able to walk away from a career that made you unhappy and move to Grand Haven. You won’t be surprised to learn that during miserable moments of my career, I teleported my brain to the end of the fishermen’s pier there to find calm. For years I’ve told people God lives there. Be well!!
Thanks… magical view today. Heard I may have missed a great sunset tonight… but there is always tomorrow 🙂
