Born To Run
1975… Bruce Springsteen released “Born to Run”. Lori and I met in high school and went on our first date. A year later, I went off to college. “Home Town Honeys” never last. Everyone knew that… but us. A year after graduating from little Coe College, I returned at the end of Lori’s senior year and we married in the chapel on campus. Forty years ago.
Forty years! We made it.
“I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul
Oh, someday, girl, I don’t know when
We’re gonna get to that place where we really wanna go”
”And we’ll walk in the sun
But ’til then tramps like us
Baby, we were born to run”
Bucket Lists
Do you have a bucket list? All the places you want to see before you die? Maybe a sexual one… all the kinky positions, places, people etc? Or special adventures? Maybe…finish that damn book!
I thought about bucket lists this weekend. We have lived and traveled many places. Had our adventures… sexual and otherwise. Yeah, still working on that book. But I realized I have achieved the ultimate already:
- Married (almost always) happily for 40 years
- Raised four kids to be fantastic adults.
- Seen them start their own families
My bucket is plenty full.
Surprise!
Three of our four adult kids, and their families completely surprised us this weekend. They drove six hours for us. Our oldest wasn’t able to make it, but we will see him and his family again for a whole week later this summer. We talked, ate, teased, talked, ate more. Enjoyed life to the point of exhaustion. A truly great weekend.
Into the Fog
Finished it off with a foggy fishing trip. The salmon mostly won this time, but our perennial captain found us just enough to cap off a wonderful weekend.
