Another kid died in the lake a couple days ago. Another year and we the people of the Lake Michigan shore argue for lifeguards,. Even I have reluctantly considered new statutes and hefty fines. And yet another kid just drowned under red flag conditions. How many red flags are enough? How many signs? Maybe a huge flashing red neon sign at the park entrance would help? I dunno. Another family mourns a completely avoidable loss of their child.
This shore is a paradise. We are here every day. The water may look like lots of fun on a red flag day. Hey, the surfers are out! But they are safe. They know what they are doing, and they have a surf board strapped to their ankles.
Peaceful, beautiful night from the North Shore beach last night. But sad too.
Respect the lake. Please.
