Sent the drone skyward today and the wind immediately pushed it back, then it stabilized. Heading out over the ice, I began getting high wind warnings, but all seemed fine. I pointed it south. The scene seemed a bit lunar our the soft ice. A little extinct volcano, a series of “craters”. The nearby ice undulating slightly.
Below is my unedited (and untalented) video. A cinematographer I will never be. Still, it might be of interest for the view of the ice and erosion as of 2/29/2020.
As soon as a calm day arrives, I will see how far down the coast I can go towards the lighthouse. But today was not the day to try it. The high wind warnings, forgot if I properly set the “return to home” feature, and the fact that I was sitting warm and comfortable in my car persuaded me to wait.
Jim, great drone video today. I enjoyed it twofold: (a) I could see the erosion to the south of North Shore park, and (b) I understood whenever a gust grabbed the mini! Obviously there are people along the north shore whose cottages may not be in imminent danger, but their steps to the beach have suffered. I’m way south almost to Breton Street, but it would appear we are fine for now. I look forward to your next production!!
Oh, maybe I’ll shoot north from the fishermen’s pier Monday… the wind is supposed to be coming from the NW.
