The magnificent fury of Lake Michigan was on display last evening. We were late to the party. Missed the sunset. Missed getting spectacular photos of Lake Michigan in better light. But damn, still such a powerful experience. The sand was blasting across the road as we neared the lake, drifting in the road. Wrapping around the car so strongly I worried about sand blasted paint. Reminded me of an Iowa blizzard… but sand instead of snow.
And then we were on the beach. Heroically battling the sand. Ok, well mostly in the car, but even snapping photos thru an open window quickly swirled sand everywhere. Eyes glued to the waves crashing over the pier.
The fog house, lighthouse, catwalk standing strong against the waves of course reminded my of a song… it’s what my mind does. Bob Seger at his best:
Against the wind
I’m still runnin’ against the wind
I’m older now but still runnin’ against the wind
Well I’m older now and still runnin’
Against the wind
As powerful as the waves are… Grand Haven’s famous pier, and everything on it, stands strong. Now with the catwalk rebuilt and illuminated.
Enjoy some low light photos. Wish you were here!
