Living life on the slow road in West Michigan means so many things go undone. If we were on vacation, we’d schedule all these things to do, see, accomplish. Stressing to maximize our time to “relax”. And yet the undone, now, is still so sweet. There we were again this morning… living life slow on our favorite beach. Every once in awhile, I’d glance down to my iPad Pro and read an article. Then eyes back up, soaking in the views. My wife doing the same, with her book.
On one of my short ventures into the electronic world an article in the August issue of Travel & Leisure caught my eye… “On the slow road in West Michigan.” The subtitle proclaimed, “Along the eastern edge of Lake Michigan, a string of towns and cities offer a wealth of art and architecture, excellent food and drink, and plenty of summertime pleasures outdoors.”
Yes, yes very true.
Then the first sentence. A question. “Why has West Michigan – with its vibrant small cities and verdant countryside, its rich architectural heritage and nationally renowned beer- escape wider notice?”
My first thought… “yeah, never forget the beer here.” And second thought, “Yes, darn good question.”
Reading the article, I kept thinking…. “Oh wow, we need to go there, do that!” But I also noticed the author only touched a very few of the fantastic places to be, things to do…. less than 1%. How fortunate we are to live in this area. Even if we time and again choose the “Leisure” over the “Travel”.
That’s how life is here, on the slow road.
