Seventy-three degrees Fahrenheit, a light breeze, perfect early beach weather. Off to North Beach we go! Yesterday it was still almost devoid of humans. Today… oh my! School buses, and a nearly full parking lot. The local schools are still in session, and the elementary teachers seem to have decided, “Why waste a beautiful beach weather day teaching?” But why did they choose our normally secluded beach? After five minutes listening to the screech of hundreds of little ones, it was time for Place B. The Grand Haven State Park. A much larger beach, but usually filled with tourists. Not so much yet today. Abundant unoccupied sand… and no school busses.
An additional benefit… the Wilfred Sykes backing out of the channel. No room to turn a ship that size around in the channel, so a long reverse trek is required. Mad skills must be needed. Or is it mostly computerized now?
The Wilfred Sykes slowly faded into the mist, foghorn blasting repeated warnings. I glanced over towards my wife. She had put down her pocket super computer, a broad smile on her face, taking in the beauty of our beach. That smile… a major reason for moving to our paradise.
