I have no artistic talent to draw or paint. So my writing is my substitute. Most of these blog entries are my doodles. Some very short flash stories on this blog, and unpublished short stories constitute my pencil sketches. With my book, I am ever so slowly painting my masterpiece.
When I started this blog, it began with my 200 day countdown to quitting my job, selling the house, moving to Michigan. Lots and lots of doodles… daily. An audience built as the countdown continued… will he or won’t he? When the countdown hit zero, and I actually did it, the audience dropped. My doodles were less goal oriented. Instead discussing things to do in Michigan, how great life is, and too many posts on the weather. Only so much anyone can take of “life is great” postings. Or… the weather.
There were some flash short stories in there, that I hope have been interesting. I should do more of them. And maybe include a few pencil drawings… like background short stories on the main three characters of my book, as a prequel to when the book begins.
My slowly progressing book. I have had plenty of volunteers to proofread. Would-be editors. Suggestions on publishers. But then, I stepped back and asked: Why do I write? Why doodle, pencil sketch or paint my masterpiece?
As much as I love every reader of this blog, I have resisted any suggestions to monetize it. Or to focus more and build the audience. Or to make it more slick and polished. The same holds for all my writing. I doodle, sketch and paint first and foremost… for me. Suggestions to compel that my book is “commercially viable” falls on my deaf ears. I will maintain complete control. I will self publish. Quietly.
Meanwhile, here, I will strive to be a bit more interesting. Better for me. Better for you. More true stories from the past. Some pencil sketches. Less weather.
But…. oh well, here is another weather picture. Amazing how much the lake has changed in less than a week. Ice has pushed the “shore” far out beyond the lighthouse. Another foot of snow tonight. Winter has finally arrived
Loving all the weather commentary and pictures! Keep them up!!!
