There I was, driving to the courthouse this morning. Not the one in Grand Haven, but one 35 minutes away (this is a big county!). My eyes were so dry. I still have been having a little trouble with my right eye from the Bell’s Palsy… but this was both eyes. Dry, tired, hurting. As we drove down the back roads to the courthouse in Hudsonville I was having trouble focusing. Blinking, rubbing my eyes… still blurry. Getting a little worried.
Then, we parked and walked in. I saw the big, bold sign in front of the metal detectors a little ways down the hallway, warning that no weapons were allowed. The sign was blurry. The it finally hit me. I was wearing my computer glasses. I wear trifocals for my old eyes. I have an identical pair, with a computer distance only correction for my long writing sessions. Seems I was mightily distracted this morning driving to the courthouse and had the wrong glasses..
And why was I driving to the courthouse? My youngest daughter got married today and is moving to California. (How’s that for burying the lead!) She just married an Army drone pilot / instructor. A holiday surprise for us… they had just gotten engaged in Las Vegas a couple months ago. We like him. Also good to have someone in the family who serves/served. The nearest prior in our extended family was my wife’s father… who served during World War II.
