Another Coaching Example
Yesterday’s post reminded me of my old high school coach when I was a just a freshman. He required all of his players to go through referee training and then referee elementary/junior high and intramural high school games. A great idea I have rarely seen duplicated since. The benefits were many:
- Actively demonstrated to us that refereeing is no each task
- Improved how you interact with referees when you have been one yourself
- Provided much-needed referees for youth programs
- Presented the high school program and players in a positive light to the school community
- Planted the seed that refereeing can be a fun and fairly well paid part-time job while in college or later
Good coaches / good managers look to develop their teams in creative ways. The world needs more of both.
