Fifteen winter coats
One line item from our charitable donations list. My wife cleaned out the closet of all unused coats. I now have no coat… not that I need one. For the last seven years, I have not worn a coat in the winter. Iowa winters. I made it through one winter not wearing one, then another, and another, keeping the streak alive.
Driving to and from work there was really no need. Actually more bother than it was worth. No need to lessen a few moments of coldness getting into the car in the garage, or the 50 step walk into work. When the temperature would dip near zero fahrenheit (or below), my one concession has been to wear a sweatshirt. And for emergencies, I would keep a sweatshirt or coat in the car… but never needed to resort to a coat. For the last seven years.
Now, in moving to Michigan, my wife has informed me that we will go to the beach almost every day. Even in the winter. She has mentioned bringing lawn chairs so we can watch events like the below video from yesterday.
I will be buying a new coat. And gloves. And boots.
