“People like a show when they like the background. When they want to be in that place” – Jerry Seinfeld
I can relate. Part of the magic of Magnum, P.I. was the location. Regardless of the episode, there was always this background buzz of pleasantness while watching. For an hour at a time one could lose their “suspension of disbelief” and be in Hawaii. To a lesser extent, Hawaii Five-0 overcomes weaker writing to give the same feeling.
As watching Northern Exposure made you want to be in Alaska.
As any of the multitude of Southern California TV shows would do the same.
My musings on the Seinfeld observation brought me back to the beaches of Western Michigan. I don’t believe there has ever been a show based in Western Michigan. A good thing! Small, hidden gems should stay hidden.
