A kindred spirit provided my haircut this week. Maybe all of twenty years old, she did a great job. She had a lot to work with… my hair was crazy long. But the kindred part was our discussion of Grand Haven. She was born and raised here. We talked about all the great things to…

April 16th: TerraTrike, the riding has begun
You can do this! Feel like it is too late for you to ride? We had not cycled for 45 years. Not once since High School. And yet with our new home being built in a large subdivision which The North Bank Trail bisects, we thought… “lets do this!” Visions of short rides east to…
March 23rd: Shangri-La
I was asked to write an article on why we chose to live in Grand Haven for a Medium publication. It can be accessed with this link…
March 20th: Choices… Less or More
The paradox of choice and one home builder’s solution (A long Medium article I posted yesterday) Everyone loves choices. But people like limits on their choices, even if they don’t admit it. Imagine choosing a job opportunity. Say you only have three choices. Further, all three choices are in Fargo, North Dakota. Would you want…
Mar 12th: That’s a wrap
So much progress. Two weeks and our new home has been framed, shingled, wrapped… and basement floor thawed and poured. One of the next steps will be windows. Gonna love to see the view from our Michigan room. A Michigan room is a four season room… glass on 3 sides. In Florida it’s a Florida…
Mar 2nd: Progress
Cruising by our new home has reached a fun stage. Progress every day. A fantastic two man framer crew building the shell rapidly. Stopped to watch them work for a few minutes the last two days. No wasted movements, no walking… they jog. They are known to be twice as fast / twice as good…
Mar 1st: Late ice won’t last
More ice drifted in. But it didn’t slam ashore, building the ice mountains we had hoped for. The winds that propels the ice just didn’t cooperate. And now with the warming days ahead, we’ll have to wait until next year. Still nice to view the lake from three nearby beaches. Wherever you are in the…
Feb 25th: Feeling real
The wood has begun to go vertical. Now our new home should be framed within another week. Shingled shortly after, and I am told the windows are already here (windows were a three week wait for my daughter’s house). No material shortages in sight. Really feeling so much better…. feeling real. Yay Eastbrook!
Feb 22nd: Maybe no real ice this year
The westerly finally arrived. But so did temperatures slightly above freezing. The hoped for ice did not blow ashore, nor accumulate with wave action. With no more cold weather forecast, we may be out of luck for spectacular ice formations. On the positive side, our new home should begin to be framed this week.
Feb 19th: Cooking with Fire
What to do on a cold, snowy, lazy day? Not much feeling the writing bug today. So time to read. Got my 200+ page Cooking with Fire book. So much to learn about creating perfect pizzas in my new Ooni Koda 16. But also, my pizza oven will become an all purpose cooking tool replacing…
