With my wife safely back from her Iowa adventure, we took our favorite short trip to Muskegon. The farmer’s market and then to The Deck.
The Muskegon farmer’s market is exceptional. Easy parking. Lots of stalls selling more and more plentiful produce as the summer progresses. But instead of walking them all, we zeroed in on our favorite. All Michigan, almost all grown on their farm. You have to watch farmer’s markets closely. Many, if not most, are diminished with produce coming from warehouses. But this particular farmer’s crop clearly comes from his acreage. We are happy to pay a little more for green beans and corn picked earlier this morning. Tomatoes harvested the day before. Everything full of flavor.
Then, the short journey to The Deck BBQ and Beer. They should work on the name a little. Such a fantastic place. So much more than food and drink. Today, I decided to take pictures of the view, all while sitting at our table. We arrived just as this beach shack restaurant was opening. Empty tables soon to be filled.
Then slowly turning around, the lighthouse…
another light guarding the harbor…
a sailboat moving behind the dune trees…
I love sailboats…
the beach along the low dune…
spinning around in my seat, the beach opening up from the dune…
the beach continuing south, and further, hidden around the bend, so much sand and water…
Where else can you go for such incredible views? Peaceful, relaxing views. A pleasant lake breeze. My wife soaking up the sun. Shade for me. We picked a table with both. Strawberry lemonade, a salad and a long laze… nowhere we had to be… why leave paradise?
