When we resided in Holland, Michigan 38 years ago, we never went too far north. South was our direction of choice, then west… Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City. East to Grand Rapids and occasionally towards Toronto. We never ventured north past Grand Haven… specifically this bridge across the Grand River. What were we thinking!
Now, we cross that bridge almost daily. The gateway north for us. Nearby exceptional beaches. Further north a sensational and varied outdoor playground all the way up into the UP.
We have avoided south in the year plus of living here. Subconsciously, south leads towards Chicago… and to our former lives. Traveling far enough south is a buzz kill. But shorter trips south can be pleasant… Holland, Saugatuck, South Haven. Today we decided to dip our toes in the waters south. Striking out to eat lunch at Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant on the shore of Lake Macatawa in Holland.
A beautiful lakeside table, delicious meal and the buzz of a stress free day fully engulfing our bodies. Today we learned we can head south a bit and maintain those good vibes… summer vibes, yes just like this…
