Hugging the coast, we leisurely drove north to the Pere Marquette beach. Here the sandy shore is long, wide, and mostly flat, a beautiful uncrowded area near Muskegon. On the northern end of the expansive beach sits The Deck. The best (only?) beach shack restaurant on the coast.
This is a spot we would claim as special even if the food was awful. Fortunately, the food is good, improved and expanded with on off season kitchen renovation. As the tables filled steadily for lunch, we were just ahead of the crowd, grabbing a nice spot in the shade
If you are nearby, it is a “must go”. We plan to make it our once a week place all summer long. Helps to have delightful salads… enough for lunch and dinner.
On our jaunt back home, we breezed by the Grand Haven State Park. Early Friday afternoon and the parking lot was nearly full… almost 4th of July like full. Sunny and in the 80’s, one of the first warm days, meant working this afternoon was not an option… for those who normally have to work (not us!).
