It was 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Below zero wind chill. We missed one of the highlights of Winterfest 2019 … the cardboard sled race. Missed the Star Trek Enterprise shuttle craft zooming down the hill. Missed the US postal truck crashing. Missed all the other creative entries. Braver souls were there. Hopefully next year we will join.
We missed the ice ring formation too. Thank goodness for drones and YouTube.
We missed the west wind picking up just before the river channel froze over. Waves blasting in from the lake, running far up the river along the boardwalk. Watched this happen this fall, but the winter version would have been more breathtaking.
Then today we debated whether to go to the lake or eat first. Dining at our favorite brewhouse won. As we were leaving, having eaten too much, the fog rolled in. On our trip to the lake, we missed seeing any distant waves. We missed the lighthouse. We could barely see a hint of the massive icebergs slammed against the shore. With pouring rain and a thunderstorm now, the lake will have changed tomorrow. But tomorrow will make up for what we missed.
