Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted.” – Winston Churchill
Ok, Winston Churchill never actually said that. Or at least there is no record of him ever saying it. But, it sounds like something he would have said.
And, it sounds like America.
Election night in America. As we continue to careen our rusty behemoth Cadillac out of the left ditch, into the right ditch, then back and forth, again and again, riding the ditches, eschewing the paved road of sound policy and compromise… we do the wrong thing.
But as the faux quote suggests above… there is hope.
After we do the wrong thing, every wrong thing, sometimes over and over… America will do the right thing. But not tonight. There will be no win for America tonight, regardless of whether we end up staying in the right ditch or hurtle to the left.
We are exhausting all other possibilities. Someday, we will demand sanity, at least for a while again. We will come together. We will solve many of our problems. They are solvable.
And for another brief moment in time we will cruise on the paved road.
God bless America, and all the beautiful women in it
God bless America, and all the beautiful people in it
May they stand proud and strong
Like Lady Liberty shining all night long
God bless America, and all the beautiful people in it — Lana Del Ray
