Right and Wrong
What is your very first memory as a small child? Psychologists believe it can be as early as two, or as late as six years of age.
I would think the more powerful memories get ingrained when something goes very right, or very wrong. My sister used to walk me down to the pharmacy and we would get a coke, with cherry syrup added at the fountain… cherry coke was so very right. Then there was my first dog, a collie named Chris. Not when the dog first appeared, I don’t remember that. But I do remember vividly the anticipation of getting the dog, someone was on the phone, my family was abuzz… the right price, the right dog, would soon be ours.
Then there was the little red wagon incident. I was pulling it down a hill, it ran me over. Took a chunk out of my ankle by my Achilles tendon. I still have the scar.
Lastly, and this might truly be my earliest, was the coloring masterpiece. I was left alone with a box of crayons and a coloring book. I quickly saw a much more challenging canvas. Lot of lines and swirls to color inside and out. I worked hard on my masterpiece, and got no appreciation at all. Who knew that dining room wallpaper was not to be colored?
