Red Warning Light
An expensive day. We locked down our apartment… I’d say modest two bedroom… but actually more than the mortgage on our house. We opted for first floor, walk out patio to the pond, and a garage. Long time readers of the blog know the garage will be the home of my wife’s out of control yarn inventory.
When we drove to lunch with my younger daughter, a caution light on my dash said the auto leveling headlights were malfunctioning. No big deal I thought. Leaving lunch and heading to the fishing pier, on came an ominous red warning light… charging system. We dropped our daughter off and started heading to a repair shop… I figured it was the alternator. What I didn’t realize was how little time we would have. First all the warning lights came on, the entire dash lit up. Then, when we were nearing the ramp onto the bridge crossing the river, all the lights went off… completely dark. Could I make it across the bridge? Would the battery keep the spark plugs firing for another mile? Turns out no. Just short of the bridge, the engine sputtered and I pulled off safely.
So, to recap. Rented a beautiful apartment today, one where we will be very happy. Great lunch with daughter, visited the pier, good karma on the auto repair. Tow truck was there within minutes, new alternator and will be back driving tomorrow. Our first minor Grand Haven adventure. Life is good!
