The story of ice and snow this winter…
On this day in 2016, the Great Lakes were 1% ice-covered. On this day in 2017 they were 3% ice-covered. This year? They are 22% ice-covered. Lake Michigan is 21% ice-covered.
Onshore where we will be living soon, they are getting pounded by lake effect snow. Bitter cold air crossing the lake water, bringing snow bands right along the shore. Usually they average two inches a day this time of year. The last couple weeks it has been a lot more. Four to six inches a night, then a foot, then another four to six.
The joy of a four season climate! Reminded me of where I went to college… Cedar Rapids, Iowa… their motto was the City of Five Seasons… spring, summer, winter and fall… and the time to enjoy them all. Nice motto, but much more appropriate for us when we are living in Michigan. Soon we will have the time to enjoy it all.
