So many people do not understand that there are two types of happiness:
One hedonistic. Pursuing happiness. The short term orgasmic rush of pleasure.
The other eudaemonic. Building happiness. A flourishing oak tree, rooted in rich soil.
Both are important. They conflict at times. But that is fine.
Take steps to build, take time to enjoy as well.
Yes, my words on happiness yet again as I reflected at our winter beach yesterday.
The happiness of the lighthouse. Built to last. Standing against the waves. Strong against the storms, the ice to come. Is the lighthouse happy? I believe so.
And then the happiness of the sweet summers on Lake Michigan. The sailboats, powerboats, surfers, swimmers, gazers with feet in the warm sands.
Choose happiness… both kinds.
